Mecia Scott, ABCDT, B.A.
Certified Dog Trainer and owner
“I founded Bark Boot Camp with the goal to reduce the number of dogs that are abandoned or rehomed due to behavioral issues. Our mission is to create a harmonious relationship between you and your furry companion by implementing a robust structure and a stimulating enrichment schedule. By offering a predictable environment for your pet, we ensure that they feel secure and can effectively navigate their surroundings with confidence.”
Since I was a child, my passion for animals has always been invigorating. It all started with the cats and kittens that I would care for in the alleyway behind my home. But it was Coco, our family dog and a rescue from the Harrisburg Humane Society, who truly taught me about the immense joy of tending to and managing problem behaviors in rescue dogs. Throughout the years, I have worked in various roles that revolve around my love for animals, spanning from animal husbandry to kennels, dog daycares, and rescues. Cumulatively, I have amassed 10 years of experience working with pets of all types.
Equipped with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychological and Social Science from The Pennsylvania State University, and my certification in Dog Training from the Animal Behavior College, I possess a unique perspective on the deep bond between humans and their furry companions. As a trainer, my goal is to help strengthen that bond.
Interestingly, I currently have two rescues of my own. Harvey, a Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix, was rescued at the tender age of 8 months from the Bucks County SPCA. He had been surrendered due to severe behavioral problems, but has since worked diligently and recently retired as a PTSD alert dog. Nowadays, Harvey spends his time napping and playing enthusiastically with his favorite squeaky toy.
My other rescue, Quinn, a Chiweenie who was surrendered to one of my kennels when she was just 5 months old. Her family gave her up due to behavioral and potty training issues. Quinn had developed severe reactivity towards people and other dogs. However, she has blossomed through training and will be taking her Canine Good Citizen Test later this year.
Many of today's dogs carry traumatic experiences that influence their actions and perceptions of the world around them. My mission as a trainer is to demonstrate to pet owners that, with patience, proven techniques, and positive reinforcement, we can help our beloved pets lead happier and healthier lives.
